Prenar thought it time he got his hands dirty in an effort to get this ship moving. He knew that Yid had his hands full with getting the propulsion systems operational, so Hadir thought he would go give Lieutenant O'Donnel-Che a hand in getting the Science Lab operational.

As the turbolift took him to deck two, Hadir couldn't help but have a little bit of nervousness. Talking to the Cardassian/Bajoran hybrid in a meeting was one thing, but being alone with her was another. What if she has a reaction to Cardassians like Yid or Abernathy. Better to get it over with and out of the way now then out there. Hadir thought.

He arrived at Science Lab and found the Lieutenant with her head buried in a service access for the Resonance Scanner and Long Range tri-d system. Hadir spoke softly as to not startle her "Lieutenant, I came to see if there is any assistance that I can offer in getting your department up and running." he said.

Sara looked up as she noticed the tall Cardassian standing there, she blinked and stood back a pace as it was rare that someone was nearly a head taller than her. Suppose it had to happen eventually ... a Bajoran, a Cardassians and me serving on the same vessel... Sounds like some kind of social experiment she thought to herself.

"Only if you know anything about this beauty Commander..." Sara said and patted the Imaging Resonance Scanner like a new a pet trying to keep her tone both neutral and friendly. "One of Yids Engineering bods managed to link it through to the AI and the external Long Range sensor array... Though I'm till struggling to get the intrinsic field arrangements calibrated". By the look on the Cardassian's face Sara had a thought that he didn't have a clue what she was talking about.

Hadir thought for a moment as he began to scan his mental database for any information that would have helped. However, coming up empty he smiled "Actually I am not really clear on how this is supposed to work. We Command folk are more of the make the system do what it is not supposed to do sort. But I make a good assistant." He said with a chuckle.

"Basically it works similar to a medical scanner... something historically referred to as an MRI. It works on similar principles of nuclear magnetic resonance to scan for, very basically, Hydrogen atoms and their electro-radio emissions. Though, unlike an old school medical scanner which is designed to look into the internal stuff that makes up people, using vaguely similar principles this baby looks everywhere and into everything else up to a couple of LY distant... Or it would if I could get the bloody thing working!"

"Well, I can take a look if you would like. Perhaps a fresh set of eyes..."

The two switched places as Prenar wedged himself into the access panel. He may have not known much about resonance scanners and the like, but he did know his way around a circuit board. It looked like the isolinear chips had been garbled and the system had no idea how to draw power. Hadir took a moment to recircuit the system and it hummed to life. "Well, there the things got power now, I'm guessing it just needs to be calibrated now. If you would like I can assist with that as well. Although, I admit when it comes to that I am all thumbs, but could use a few lessons. The Sciences have never been my strong suit," he said.

"Don't know how you can fit in there... I've banged my head and elbows numerous time this morning" Sara said with a sigh as she sipped her now luke-warm coffee. "By the way I can borrow you a number of technical documents on the latest field tests and I've most of the scientific journals saved on a PADD somewhere... Though some of it's not for the layman they usually have linked thesis' and not-so-technical background information and articles to explain the more complicated stuff... though I suppose you'd probably find it boring" she explained.

"I have had years of reconnaissance training, which included squeezing myself into the smallest of spaces." Hadir said. I won't bother telling her where that training came from of course. That can come out later, perhaps over coffee, Hadir thought. He found that spending time with her alone was intoxicating. She was beautiful... He swallowed those thoughts down deep at least for now.

"I would be happy to look at the manuals one must know as much of everything they can. Particularly if they want to command well. This way they know what their crew is going through," he added.

"You fancy a coffee?... this is getting cold" Sara asked holding up her mug by way of explanation. "I've reprogrammed the small replicator in the corner for mosts blends and beans, if you're a fan of coffee of course?" Gods i'd be asking if he wants cake next... I sound like and idiot! she thought to herself.

Hadir chuckled "Am I a fan of coffee, do we need to breathe. If you ask the replicator to make a Prenar special, it will give you my own special blend. Coffee made from a hybrid bean, the bean is bred from terran coffee and Cardassian red leaf tea. It is delicious, I'll take one of those with cream. Thanks... I suggest you try it... I mean... if you like red leaf tea." He gave her a sheepish grin.

Sara blinked and shook her head. "Think I'll stick to more traditional beans" she said Don't want him to think I'm leading him on she thought though added "Perhaps I'll try it some time... when we know each other better". She turned to the control panel and re-booted the system and linked in the tri-d and database from the LR. Sara then tapped a few of the touch-sensitive controls...

As if by magic a Long Rang three dimensional image of the local star systems in a 250 LY radius emerged in the air above the console, geo-centric to the Galactic plain. A swirling mass of glimmering stars and darker points denoting planets. Sara touched the controls and the tri-d image expanding rapidly to show near enough the whole of the galactic arm. "Cool, eh" she muttered.

"That's amazing..." He muttered. "I'll tell you what since the console is up and running. The least I can do is help clean up the lab. This way you can re-calibrate the rest of the consoles. Does that sound like a plan?" Hadir said as he stood up...

Sara nodded still absentmindedly watching the tri-d display of stars, it was strangely both kind of mesmerizing and gently hypnotic as it turned on, she guessed, the galactic axis.

"What...? Oh yeah" Sara said after a few moments with a smile as she looked about the Lab trying to get her head around what needed doing and in exactly what order. She then remembered that she'd done some prep work last night and she handed the Cardassian a small PaDD with a to-do list off a shelf. "If you don't mind checking out these systems and equipment in the order they're listed there that would be a great help" she explained. "With a little luck, without bothering Yid's engineers, we can get most of the non-technical checks and reboots up and running in an hour or so. If you need any help just give me a shout.. Is that okay with you?"

Hadir took the PADD from her and smiled "This is your lab Lieutenant I'm just a guest here. So I shall take my lead from you. With that said, I'll get this list done... Ma'am..." He had added the last word as a joke and had smiled after speaking it. He then set about the list of tasks that the Science Chief needed done.

Sara hummed to herself as, ever, she was happiest when she was busy doing something, always keeping busy and she felt right at home as she linked the various databases and checked through the various strata of programming on the science board. In a strange way it reminded her of those quaint wooden jigsaw puzzles her adoptive mother had given her to keep her quiet when she'd first lived in San Fransisco on Earth. She looked over to see if Hadir was coping all right and gave him a quick thumbs up (a very human gesture which, hopefully, the tall Cardassian understood).

Hadir was setting some of the spare sample containers in a storage locker when out of the corner of his eye he noticed Sara's thumbs up. He returned the gesture, smiling and thinking that as was the case with most prodigies the Science Chief was awkward in social situations. He also noted that he rather enjoyed her humming and picked up her tune in short order.

Sara looked over and, for a moment, it felt surreal to be in the same room as a Cardassian never mind humming along as they worked together A strange universe indeed! she thought to herself as she got back to her work.

The two hummed along in relative silence toiling away. Happy in the work they were doing, and Hadir at least was happy for the company as well.
